
Mapei Kerabond tile adhesive
Kerabond is a cement based powder adhesive for ceramic tiles (thicknesses of adhesive up to 5 mm), with no vertical slip.
Classification
Kerabond is a normail (1) cementitious (C) adhesive with vertical slip (T) classified as C1T
Where to Use
- Indoor and outdoor fixing of ceramic tiles and mosaic of all types on floors, wall and ceilings
- Spot bonding of insulating materials such as expanded polystyrene, expanded polyurethane, rock and glass wool, wood-cement and sound deadening panels, etc
Example Applications
Paper-faced or mesh backed mosaics of all types of ceramic tiles (quarry tiles, single fired and klinker tiles etc), on:
- conventional renders or cement mortar walls
- ordinary concerete slabs or reinforced floatingt slabs, provided they are sufficiently well aged and dry/
- gypsum supports and anhydrite screeds as long as they are dry and first treated with a primer.
Technical Characteristics
Kerabond is a grey or white powder composed of cement, fine-grade selected sand, synthetic resins and special additives/
Mixed with water, Kerabond becomes an easy to spread mortar with good bond strength, low slump and high grab so that it can be applied vertically withot sagging, even holding heavy tiles in place.
Kerabond hardens with minimal shrinkage to become extremely resistant, adhering perfectly to all conventional materials used in construiction
Recommendations
Use Kerabond mixed with Isolastic in the following cases:
- on foamed concrete walls
- on pre-cast or cast-concrete structure
- over underfloor heating installations
- with large-format tiles
- for the installation of glass/porcelain mosaics
- for the installation of stone materials as long as they are stable and moisture proof.
Do not use Kerabond in the following cases:
- on wooden substrates
- on gypsum board walls
- on metal, rubber, PVC and linoleum surfaces
- for laying tiles which require a layer of adhesive more than 5mm thick
- where the surfaces must be set to light foot traffic rapidly
- for the installation of non-absorbent tiles (quarry tiles, single fire tiles, porcelain tiles, klinker tiles, etc) on other non-absorbent wall and floor substrates.
Grouting and Sealing
Wall joints between ceramic tiles can be grouted after 4-8 hours and floor joints can be grouted after 24 hours with the relevant MAPEI cementitious or epoxy grout. Expansion joints must be sealed with the relevant MAPEI sealant.
Set to Light Foot Traffic
Floor are able to take light foot traffic after approx 24 hours.
Ready for Use
Floors are ready to use after approx 14 days
